While contacting Jim Standen at his home in California to confirm his acceptance to attend our 40th anniversary gala dinner, our former keeper revealed that he had to hobble to the phone on crutches!
Jim explained: "I had a kneecap replacement operation a week ago, so I'm struggling around on crutches at the moment.
"But it's great news about the dinner and I can't wait to fly back to England to be there. The last time I was in London was 13 or so years ago, to attend Bobby's memorial match."
Jim reports that he retired working as a sales manager for Honda Cars around two years ago, although his wife still works as a senior bank executive.
We will be interviewing Jim, in-depth, in an issue of EX very soon...

On the subject of the Jim Standen article Tony,£100,000 for Bobby Ferguson?I cry myself to sleep as it is about not getting Gordon Banks without you adding another £35,000 to what we squandered on Ferguson instead.A hundred grand in 1967 would have got you Gordon Banks,Lev Yashin and probably a Beatle or two as well. Next you'll be telling me we spent 10 million on Don Hutchison and Thomas Repka. Have a good day Monday,Gerry.
